Enjoy this in-person talk from the new president/CEO of TACF! Learn all about the Recurrent Genomic Selection (RGS) program and what it means for the future of The American Chestnut Foundation. Gain current insight about our organization at the national level.
Michael Goergen is a nationally recognized leader in forestry, sustainability, and public policy. For over twenty years, he has worked to restore forests, strengthen wildfire resilience, and shape climate strategy, serving in senior positions with the Society of American Foresters and the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities. His leadership has helped advance landmark legislation, build multiparty partnerships among governments, tribes, and industry, and launch conservation initiatives that span from local communities to global markets.

Grafting and Growing- Techniques, Trials, and Success in the Greenhouse
There are many ways to go about growing chestnut trees. In this discussion Noah will share about the specific grafting and growing work being done at Penn State by TACF. Learn what methods we use for success!
Originally from Fogelsville, Pennsylvania, Noah Vincent studied at Susquehanna University and earned a B.S. in Ecology. His senior capstone focused on forest succession with the presence of invasive plant species. Prior to working with Chestnut trees, he was a Plant Healthcare Specialist and Arborist at Monster Tree Service and Cutting Edge Tree Professionals.

Cradle of Conservation: Pennsylvania’s Working Landscapes
From the nineteenth to the twenty-first centuries, Pennsylvanians’ deep relationship with sites of production and consumption have shaped the conservation, environmental, and environmental justice movements. Travel down this fascinating road with Allen in the rich history of Pennsylvania’s working landscapes, including (of course) the American chestnut tree.
Dr. Allen Dieterich-Ward is Director of The Graduate School and Professor of History at Shippensburg University. He is the author of Beyond Rust: Metropolitan Pittsburgh and the Fate of Industrial America, winner of the Arline Custer Memorial Award for Best Book on the MidAtlantic Region. Allen is co-chair of the Pennsylvania Conservation Heritage Project, a board member of PA Humanities, and past president of the Pennsylvania Historical Association. His most recent book, Cradle of Conservation: An Environmental History of Pennsylvania is now available from Temple University Press.

Q: Do I need to be a member to attend?
A: While our chapter meetings are created especially for our members, all are welcome! (And really, no pressure, but we’re betting you’ll want to become a member after you have a chance to get to know us!)
Q: What is the ticket price?
A: $30 per person. (Purchase tickets here.)
Q: What is included in my ticket price?
A: A LOT. Not only the chance to hear from experts in our industry with time to network and mingle with the best “nuts” around, but also breakfast (donuts, coffee, juice) AND lunch (sandwiches, sides, beverages)! Seriously, a real deal!
